Attention All Music Forum Posters
I'm redoing the rules so they're easier to understand and quicker to read. The original rules can be viewed in the spoiler at the end of this post.
-In any thread, DO NOT repeat something that is either common knowledge or has been said in recent posts. For instance, do not post "Jimi Hendx pwns all!" in the Greatest Guitarist thread. It becomes spam if everyone's posts are the same.
-You can make a thread about any genre or band.
-We already have Favorite song/artist/album/etc threads, so don't make them
-For the descriptions of band threads, please put the bands genre.
-Link to the bands MySpace, or their official website (if it has music samples) Additionally linked youtube videos are also a good idea. This is the most important rule, as this helps people who don't know about the band listen to their music. Failure to include information about a band will result in the thread being deleted/closed.
-A thread is open for discussion about anything regarding the topic. People can express both positive and negative opinions about a band.
-Don't make polls comparing two or more bands. No exceptions (besides the ones that already exist).
-Don't make polls asking which genre is better.
-Keep the spamming at a minimal
-Do not create a thread for your favorite band, genre, etc. All of these threads have been created.
-Failure to follow these rules will result in warnings and/or bans.
Hopefully you will read these rules and help me make the music forum a better place and more fun for all. If you still have any questions regarding the rules, refer to this good example: (Link).
Original Music Forum Guidelines:
There will be specific guidelines for this forum that all must follow.
- You're allowed to make a thread about any band you want that doesnt already have its own thread, as long as you provide a good foundation for discussion in this thread. Please post a link to mp3's/myspace so that people who have not heard the band/music can hear it and make their opinions on it. From now on if a generally unknown band is posted with just asking what people think, then that 1) thread will be closed/deleted and 2) the poster will be warned.
- Also, don't make a thread simply asking if people like a certain band. A thread with this question will result in people saying, "Yeah, I like them" or "No, I don't" which really isn't a discussion at all.
- It is highly encouraged to spread the word of local, or lesser-known bands, as much as possible, but please refer to the bullet above.
- As in the other forums, check to see if a thread was made before you post it. If you make a thread that has already been made and is listed in the "Topics Already Posted" thread, then (1) the thread you created will be deleted and (2) you will receive a 1 day suspension.
- If you want to ask people what their favorite album is from a certain band, we prefer that you just post the question in the band's thread, as it is conversation.
- Don't make polls about which genre is better. There aren't enough choices, and there is no right answer to which genre is the best. Not to mention no one cares.
- Don't make polls comparing two bands unless there is an infamous feud between the two bands or the fans of one band generally dislike the other band. If you are unsure whether the thread is viable, please run it through a Smosh Moderator with a brief (one line) reason why it should be allowed.
- Flaming just for the fun of it is forbidden. Don't be like "OMG! THAT BAND SUCKS! YOU'RE SO STUPID!" We would prefer that you have an intellectual debate about a band.
- When posting a band/genre/musician/etc. thread please follow the following rules/guidelines. If the rules are not followed, the thread may be deleted and the poster warned/suspended.
BEFORE CREATING A NEW THREAD:
1) Check to see if the thread has already been created using the search function.
2a) If the thread exists, post your opinions there.
2b) If the thread's category isn't listed, please use the search function to see if the thread you were planning on making already exists. If i doesn't, post away.
3) Make sure the title of the band/genre/musician/etc. is clearly displayed in the thread title.
4) There really is no reason for a topic description, you can add one if you'd like.
5) Give you opinions of the band/genre/musician/etc. and say what you're favorite songs are, or why you like them, if you saw them live, etc.
6a) If what you're posting about is a band, then give at least one link to that band's music so other people who have not heard their music can have an opinion also. This is how discussion is carried out with everyone.
6b) If the thread is about a musician/singer post a link to some music they have done. Or if they were in multiple bands, post some of those.
6c) If it's a genre thread, give some examples of bands that you like/dislike of that genre.
7) Good Job! You've actually read all the rules!
By following these rules you will make a forum about one of the greatest things in the world, into one of the greatest forums on smosh.
Fred's SOTD FAQ:
First off, some quick FAQ/QA type of thing.
*What is SOTD?
*Why not SOTW?
*YOUR MUSIC SUCKS
*Can i send you PMs of songs?
*You hated on my favorite band, im going to start an argument.
*Im going to spam you for being a moron
(more will be added when they come up, or if i think of more)
What is SOTD
SOTD (Song of the Day) is going to be a thing i do, where i find songs that i happen to like. If
i like a song enough, it will be dubbed "SOTD". Though it may not be on a daily basis (maybe 2 in a row sometimes) it will be might be once a week. or if i really havnt cared for much music for a while, itll be once a month
ill make a thread, but not more than 1 a day, and post a link to song, in one way or form (ill try to make them download-able)
Ill say why i liked the song, talk about it ( just to fill up space) and rant about some other bands' songs that i completely disliked
Why not SOTW? (song of the week)
Because SOTW was already taken by "sig of the week"
"UR MUSIC IS TEH SUXXORZ"
Deal with it, i dont like half the metal, screamo emo shit you listen to, but i dont complain.
Besides, im not trying to force you to listen to it, im only giving my thoughts. i think itll be fun
for you guys and I if i do this, and expand each others musical knowledge and tastes.
Can i send you a song to listen to?
yes and no.
DONT: do not PM me, i have a full PM box
DO: comment me
DONT: Post in the thread a name of a song
DO: send me a variety of songs
DONT: Send me country, or a song that has someone screaming into the microphone until its not understandable by the average ear
You said bad things about my favorite band! im going to cause trouble and argue an endless argument and spam!
YES! you can do that, just not in this thread, keep your shit out. This is my territory, if you dont like
riticism then never click this link. Im also requesting that Megadeath does surveillance on these threads.
BUT im not closed minded, if i ever say something that is incorrect comment me with the correct statement and some sort of proof. (example: i learned that maryln manson did not remove his lower ribs so he can give himself a blowjob)
"Your dumb, im going to say mean things to you in your comments"
a simple "block user" button can fix that, so save your time and anger for something else, like punching a baby.
