Okay so lately i've really been into a bunch of graffiti artists...Banksy, Ethos, Bastardilla so on..and I want to know what you think of it? Do you think its right for it to be illegal, or should it be legal and why?

I dont mean just huge letters, graffiti artist these days are trying to get points out to everyone,
Lets take Banksy for example..his art has a lot to do with politics and much more...

Yeah same here, he's one of my favourite..in a way i think graffiti should be illegal i mean that gives you the whole excitememnt to do it in the first place, and if it was legal then a lot of cities would be completely graffitified...?(if thats a word) And it would probably die out

I love looking at graffiti. And to make it legal would ruin the whole purpose of it.

it can be gorgeous urban art when its done by people with actual talent. Some tags are just ugly vadalism.

Legalization would change it completely. The point of graffiti is making a statement. It's truly beautiful but like somebody said, gang signs and crappy tags can ruin it.

Gang signs suck but if an individual gets permission then he/she should be able to do it if it's nice looking

Yup. Either they get paid to do it illegally, or they do it professionally on a canvas.
It's a really cool art form but if people would just do it legally then it would get a ton more respect.

i love graffiti, i wish there was more graffiti in my area. i took a train into boston and there was so much graffiti outside around the tracks it was amazing.

(and tre cool from green day has a tattoo of the broken window/tv and the girl with the balloon)

There's too much of it around here. I like the somewhat artistic and interesting drawings, but the random gang names on every wall/truck get annoying.

ive seen it alot of times around. it seems so hard to do. i cant do anything like that with normal paint. it really looks like its one of the hardest types of art.

there should be professionals that are allowed and only professionals

and i think tags are cool, i know it isnt art and it is stupid but some styles look cool. i wish i could write in those types of fonts.

and i think there is already a graffiti thread.

pretty much i think you should be able to qualify for a graffiti license. and you can do whatever you want as long as you have authorization. some of it looks damn cool, and i think it's a good form of art. but some of it is stupid and pointless.

Yeah I tottally agree, i mean when people put signs, or signatures its just crappy.
But when they actually graffiti artistic things, its pretty awesome

Graffiti is awesome, i think they should just make a park with lots and lots of white walls and get graffiti artists to do their work on those, so then the community could enjoy it and it wouldn't be vandalism

In my opinion, graffiti must be illicit to be classified as graffiti. Otherwise it's just a mural. Tags are stupid. The vast majority are ugly and indicate that a neighborhood is poorly taken care of. Yes, the handwriting looks cool, but it doesn't belong on a public space.

I like graffiti when it has a message besides "TIMMY WUZ HERE AND HE PUT HIS POORLY DONE TAG ON THE WALL". Check out some of the political graffiti on the Berlin wall, now that's cool

i wish there were artists like this where the artists near my school work.
instead we have ugly tags on water towers and mailboxes

i think the prettiest stuff ive seen [with my own eyes] have been on college campuses
and on romes subways


im not saying vandalizing is a good thing but some just fits.
