what do you think of Hot Topic? I love the style and everything about it. What I can't stand is preps who shop there. So tell me what you think about Hot Topic.

Hot Topic isn't for emo kids. There is a difference between punk, goth, and emo. a BIG difference. ANd plenty of people refer to others by a label. Let me define prep: Aeropostale, A&F, AE, and all that shit. Those are prep stores. Hot Topic is a punk/goth store. Get it?

OMG. I hate that. I also hate that every Hot Topic I've ever been to is surrounded by prep stores. The one I normally go to is in between Build-a-bear and Hollister.

Wanna know why it's right next to a Hollister? It's owned by the same people.

I've known it for years. They try to keep it under wraps because they don't want to lose "street cred" or whatever. Abercrombie bought out Hot Topic a long time ago. The money goes to the same people.

If someone truly understands what we're all about and truly likes the style then I usually don't have a problem. But then you have these people who do it because it's "cool" or "in style" if they truly like the style them selves then welcome! But I hate the posers that do it to fit in. During this debate I may have written it to sound like I hate all non/gothic people in hot topic. Only the one's who do it to fit in....which is typically about 99.9% of them.

I work for Fossil, by the way. For those of you who don't know, it's more expensive than American Eagle and more pretentious than Aerospatiale. But we don't have our thumbs shoved quite as far up our asses as Abercrombie and Fitch.

i have never been to a hot topic...as far as i know they dont exist in canada. but i hate the labels. the way a person appears does not make them a prep or punk or whatever. perhaps these "Preps" might actually like that kind of stuff, but they have a wide variety of tastes and just happened to look preppy on the day they went shopping. i hate shopping thats why i only own two pairs of pants and a few shirts, its a quick painless experience, go into stitches, grab the exact same pair of jeans that is on. go out to the t-shirt stand. look for funny slogans or good bands. go home. i hate all this labeling stores as prep, punk...etc shit. its just gay. you like what you like, dont judge others

I typically try not to. I honestly believe this thread got a little out of hand on my part. Rather than saying certain characteristics of people I hate, I characterized them as a whole which isn't true so I apologize to anyone who was offended about that...I do not however, apologize for liking Hot Topic's clothes and style.

Well, you are also 15 so, you know, what you have to say really doesn't matter, because in a few years your entire world view will have changed several times over anyways.

Fossil clothing makes all its employees buy and wear its brand while on the clock, which is fine by me because most of the clothes look damn good, and we get them for a fraction of the price. I mean cheap. So it’s all good from where I'm sitting. I like going to Hot Topic, though. It is one of my favorite stores for picking up cool T-shirts. I do have to muffle my laughter sometimes when I see these over-the-top people who are in the store, though. Hell, I snicker to myself when I see fashion-obsessed metrosexuals in our store (though I sometimes fear I am fast becoming one ).

you dont have to apologize for liking what you like. i think thats what most people are getting at. people like what they like and we should just all accept that...even if we think they are poseurs.

thats kind of crappy when ppl say stuff like that. people assume that cuz others dress a certain way that they are a total douche bag. i do go into hot topic occasionally cuz i like their band shirts and its just interesting to look around sometimes. i tend to surprise people cuz i look like a 'prep' but im not... my favorite music includes system of a down, avenged sevenfold, and lots of older rock, not rap shit or fuckin techno. i also hate people that dress in extremely expensive clothes and act like they rule the world, but i also buy stuff at aero a lot cuz they always have sales and i need decent lookin stuff to wear to work/school/etc. i guess that its illegal to not act like you dress or something. im not pissed or nething but i just think its kind of rude.
