There is no point, other than trying to get your city to the top of the highscore list by having the most clicks. I just thought it would be fun to watch the city grow.

Yeah. After awhile, hotels and skyscrapers start forming with the more clicks we get.

Yes. If we get a lot of clicks, we will get skyscrapers.

They are randomly placed. You do get some of the same buildings though, so two different cities will look similar, just with stuff in different spots.
