Idaho man sees "mark of the beast," cuts off and microwaves hand

HAYDEN, Idaho — A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" amputated one of his hands, put it in a microwave and summoned authorities, Kootenai County sheriff's deputies say.

The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when deputies arrived at his home in this north Idaho town Saturday afternoon, and neither he nor the severed hand bore any noticeable tattoo or other mark, sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger.

The man, whose name was withheld, was in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene, where he and the hand were taken by ambulance. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Johnson would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand, citing patient confidentiality restrictions.

"He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death," Wolfinger said. " That kind of mental illness is just sad."

The New Testament Book of Revelation contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying, according to the New International Version of the Bible, "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury."

Wolfinger said didn't know which hand was amputated.

It is impossible to drive a standard circular saw with just one hand - I know that because I'm used to doing DIY - so I thought that a mitre saw was what they meant.
Could've been worse, though. Could've been one of these. It's funny that people allow other people to buy those tools as though they were harmless, too.

This doesn't prove anything. Does the actions of one isolated man prove that whatever he has been following is bad? No. Even if he sees a mark of the Beast? Yes. There's something called dementia, that can sometimes be mixed with anything to create demented actions.
I've heard about a professor of physics who jumped off a building to test gravitation out. Does this makes physics as a whole bad? No.

Any person doing some heavy work will know that all circular saws have 2 trigger buttons (the "turn" button and the "dead man's switch"); it's impossible to operate both with only one hand, and it's impossible to lock either of the two (that's by law on safety). Therefore, I doubt that it was done with a true circular saw.
Mitre saws are often called circular saws, though.

Although I don't agree with alot of the christian morals and am turned away from christianity because of the almost cult-like branch i was brought up in, you can't blame the entire religion when there's so many different variations and so many different beliefs. not all wiccans worship satan, not all mormans have 50 kids... not all christians cut off parts of their body or kill someone and claim god told them to do it.

It seems more likely that he had some sort of mental disorder. If he'd been on something, he probably wouldn't have thought to put on a tourniquet on it before he cut it off, not to mention he probably wouldn't have got it on right.
