Today, I found out they were setting up a rugby team for under 18 girls in my town to get us into the game rather than just sitting by the sidelines
However, my mum told me she was dead-set against it as Rugby is a physical and contact sport where girl's can get injured quite easily.

Well, It just got me thinking.
Should girls be playing contact sports?
Why does it never create as much interest as male - played sports?

last year me and my friend started a petition to get a gilrs football team and they said no because no other schools had it. we suggested if we just got enought girls to just like kinda play just within our school and they said sure. we got enough girls and they wouldnt let us. im so pissed

I know many girls who play football, gaelic football and camogie ( one fo the fastest games in the world) but I suppose I'm thinking of really physical games like rugby and American Football where there is tackling involved.

My sister was on an american football team when we lived in Florida.

I remember going to one of her games and this HUGE girl like practically ripped her arm off, I was pissing myself laughing.

But yeah, I don't see a problem with it. I definatley would play a contact sport [I nearly said foot, wtf?].

I only for depends because sometimes those girls who play are massive huge. Like muscular and everything. Those tomboyish girls who circle their lives around contact sports are kinda scary.

But most of the time, I would say yes, as long as girls vs. girls. If they want to play with the boys, then let them play with the boys.

(And since when is soccer really a contact sport?)

i tried football (soccer) but i heard you get O--shaped legs from it so i stopped lol.

I'm sorry but i really think girls shouldn't play contact sport. I am a girl and i have to say guys are born physiclly stronger. But girls are obviously smarter and if guys want to smash they're brains out fine by me but i don't see y girls have to go through the torment. Also i'm against violence so i hate contact sports...

I think if girls want to play physical sports like football, wrestling, and hockey, they should have the right to. But the second they get hurt or something and try to use their sex as an excuse, they shouldn't be allowed to bitch about it.

contact sports are fun. i love football and rugby.

but the best sport ever is shopping cart football. the only thing is that you need alot of people, since one person is in the shopping cart, and the other pushes it. its pretty easy to take shopping carts from grocery stores, alls you need to so is fins a huge open field. and its played with the same rules as normal football.

I've played that before but when i play it's not exactly like football.

My favorite contact sport is hockey, closely followed by rugby. I basically suck at every sport that isn't contact except for swimming.

I love girl contact sports. I'm really competitive and get really into it. I played soccer for YEARS and loved it. We also plays games in gym that involve pyshically beating each other, the boys usually play those kinds of games, but when it's all girls against girls, it's amazing.

I dont know if anyone has heard of speedball, but you kick it on the ground, but also play it in your hands? Like someone can kick it up to you and you can catch it and run with it to the goal and try to throw it in, but if someone tags you, it becomes their ball and goes back on the ground. It's a lot of fun. For field hockey practice we played it, and we had all the football boys waiting around for their game watching us, wondering why none of us play like that in our gym classes. I had a dozen bruises afterwards and took down so many of my friends. One girl even broke her nose.

So ya, those kinds of things are fun.

Depends on the person, not the sex. Some people are meant for sports, some aren't.

Anyway, it was mandatory for us to play it at least once a week, so I'm very used to the idea of contact sports. I think it's perfectly fine for girls to play them.

For a game like Rugby (Girls play it here, we have pro teams and everything for girls) I see no reason why girls shouldn't be allowed to play. Any contact sport really. Girls should get the club rules:

All girl teams and weight classes (So skinny girls don't end up playing butch body builder chicks.)

If it's what they want to do, then that's ok. But in the case of playing a contact sport with the guys, they would be too likely to get crushed. But if they are allowed to try out, and they end up owning the guys, then sure, even though that isn't likely to happen.

I used to play football with the guys at my old school, but not in the team or anything. I even scored a goal occasionally. But mainly I chickened out and didn't go after the ball because everytime I did I had 20 guys rushing at me all at once. I developed early and there ain't no way I'm willingly going through that pain.

there were just like 4 girls on p.e. class last year so the teacher told us to play football with guys.

I was watching video of our girls football team, and this one girl clotheslined this other girl to the ground. THREE TIMES! It was rad.

Just a few more months and the girl soccer competition starts again at my school

If I had a chance to play rugby, I would have done it. As a kid I played I was on a flag football team for 4 years becasue I wasn't allowed on tackle football, and it sucked, cause thats what I wanted to do. I did however play powderpuff junior and senior year of high school (Powderpuff for those who don't know is girl vs. girl tackle football with no pads or protection. Usually its played juniors against seniors, but some schools play it with just seniors and they go agaisnt the seniors at a rival school). I'm not going to lie, I was pretty damn good, and boy did I get into it.

First game I played at my old high school as a junior where it was a non-school supported thing and hazing was going on, as a senior I played on my new schools team which was supported by the school and therefore there was no hazing.

So yah, all in all, not just for guys.
