My grandad gave me an article to read today about these amazing cameras from the '60's.
They are called "Holga" and come in many different versions from different periods of time.
They really caught my attention, because they are unpredictable unlike digital cameras, which capture events perfectly. They give a dreamy and artistic edge to photos, without the need of professional editing from photoshop.
I really want one!
The only downside is that the photos have to be developed. There is no way of converting onto the computer like modern day cameras.

I know! They really are amazing.
The only reason that happens was because they were made cheaply, and they're old fashioned.
The effects are not deliberate.

a little late... but it says they are £15, which is british money. So it will be $30.
And i'm guessing most probably will develop them.

yeah, if you know what you are doing or even atempt to learn dark room developing you can get the same effect as that with a regular film camera. It's really easy to use and it is much more satisfying cause you've actually done more to create it rather then have the camera or any computer do it for you.

Did anyone ever think that you could produce the same effects with a normal camera of roughly the same timeperiod? It requires skills to do so, though. However, isn't that what photography is all about?
Plus, the abnormalities produced by a Holga camera are highly unpredictable. There's a chance of you "getting lucky" and getting a good artistic picture. It's not all the time that it happens.

Photography is about capturing a moment, but doing it in an artistic manner. Yes, it can be about editing, but that is what is so special and popular about the Holga... it's unpredictable. So that is how it makes photos artistic, by giving a random special effect. It makes it much more exciting and fun to use than a normal camera. With a digital you know what you're going to get.
