View Official Format and Rules

Official Rules
1. You must have at least 100 posts to enter.
2. No pre-made signatures. However, if you would like to take a risk by starting on one of the themes in the theme poll without an official announcement of the theme, take it.
3. Your signature must be your own work.
4. Your signature must include your name in some way, shape, or form.
5. Your signature must be of a reasonable size (rectangular in shape with a maximum width of 555px). If you are asked to resize your signature, you must do so.
6. You may only post one entry in one post, and any further changes to your entry must be posted in replacement of your original entry.

Failure to adhere to any of these rules will result in the disqualification of your entry.

The deadline is this Friday at 5:59 PM (PST).

Notes
You may discuss SOTW in the entry and theme poll threads without penalty, but you may not have discussions in the voting threads. If you do, your post(s) may be deleted.

Example of a good entry:

The signature follows the *theme, size, and name requirements.

Example of a bad entry:

The signature does not follow the theme, the person did not make "The Scream", it does not show their name in any way, and it's a bad size.

that cow is pretty sweet though. Good job bolding the "You must have your name in it" part. I've seen a few good sigs get disqualified because of that. I'll post my entry later.

perhaps this has already been discussed...but...

In another thread we were talking about trophies, and how there are so many that they become pointless and meaningless. I think the SOTW is a perfect example. EVERY week there is a new trophy going out, it seems too much, and besides changing your sig every week is excessive.

I propose SOTM, and ridding everyone of SOTW trophies and starting anew.

Any takers?

It was the starting at the end of the week, and crappy topics that made us have to start a more official version*. I think the whole "Poll" idea is a little un-nessisary though, it makes the SOTW seem like the biggest thing on the forums.

And SOTM is stupid, I make most of my signatures in a couple hours, I could deal with SOTD if I had too. A whole month of making signature's is just too long.

All I am saying is I think it needs some reform. I think the trophies are a bit much for something so inconsequential (as opposed to the official smosh awards and the very long smoshsurvivor)

I also think there are far too many threads for it. It can be ONE thread only...it doesn't need a new thread every week, and especially not TWO threads every week. and ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY not two pinned threads a week.

I perfectly agree with what you said about the threads. But I do think the trophies for SOTW mean more than the trophies/ribbons for the "Smosh Hottie of the Month". We actually work pretty hard on these SOTW's. It seems as the whole forum, (I inlcluded) are going a bit wack on getting reward's for forum games.

Fair enough, but they still don't mean crap when there are already 11 of them in circulation. There are going to be 30 of them around before you know it. Is this really where the trophies are going? becuase in that case...we should just get rid of them in general. What are the OFFICIAL SMOSH AWARDS for then?

We should stick to SOTW, but maybe not do it every week.

We let you have "your game" for TEN WEEKS before we had enough of your lack of organization. You may have started the competition, but that doesn't mean you can continue to screw it up for those of us who want to participate. A new official format and set of rules was exactly what SOTW needed.

Well I think there should atleast be something to give people who win the SOTW's. A little reward to give them something to work for. Maybe we can start a thread. That will have ALL of the winners of the SOTW's. No trophies, but after you win you will get your winning signature placed in the new locked thread.

How's that?

I like that a lot.

You know, I've thought that same thing. When I originally designed the SOTW trophies, I wanted all the trophies given on Smosh to look the same, to maintain continuity.

Maybe there should be a new divider for our signatures so as not to group the SOTW and Smosh Award trophies together, and then not hold a SOTW every week to prevent their numbers from getting too large.

Edit: Actually I'm starting to like Butch's idea.

Nothing needs to be decided immediately, its just something I've been thinking for a while.

And a few more things:

All the old winners will still get their signatures in the thread, we worked just as hard on those as we did on the new ones.

Also because I know some people really like trophies. Once you win a SOTW you get a trophie that says "SOTW winner," and it would like to the official, (pinned) winners thread. That would mean jaguar would have 3 trophies, best avatar, best signature, and SOTW winner, (I just used you as a example).

Seems like a good idea. But I doubt everyone will willingly give up there trophies. Then all the new winners won't get trophies and might get mad.

i like butchs idea of putting all the winners in a thread. it would be cool to see tham all in one place.

So, one poll thread at the beginning of each month and the top four choices are used, to prevent multiple poll threads.

As for the voting thread and submission threads.
We'll have the submission thread pinned and open during the submission time period. Once submission time is done, we can close and unpin that thread, and then create the voting thread. So we keep it down to one pinned and active thread at all times (except once a month when we have a new poll thread).

And as for trophies-could we possibly set up a system in our smosh profiles like we had on the old site with flash awards? There is plenty of space in our profiles to fill with a trophy/awards section. That would take some figuring though.
Another idea is to have a seperate page on smosh, like, www.smosh.com/awards, for example, that can be updated by mods only, and serve as an official showcase for awards won be different members. There could be seperate sections for different contest awards (Hottie of the month, the smosh awards, smosh survivor, sotw's, etc.)

I really, really, really like that.

I am delivering a message from our fellow smosher, boxx0r, who created the Fantastic Four signature and asked me to enter it in last week's competition. He has banned himself from smosh for exams week, so had no way to enter it himself.

"Wait a minute.. isn't the point of this SOTW revolution to give everyone who tried a shot, to let everyone who put effort into making their signature be part of the competition? There wasn't a name on the Fantastic Four signature, and it got disqualified.. It seems to me that this new and "improved" system is just as nit-picky as before.."

Rules weren't thrown out altogether, new ones we're just established. "Putting your name on your signature" is not nit-picky, it's a very basic rule, one that has been in place since Week 1, and one that was repeated FOUR times in the entry thread SPECIFICALLY for THAT entry.

How about you let me post it in forum games, every week. There doesnt have to be trophies, honestly no-body gives a fuck if you won sig of the week(not trying to be mean).

So next smosh survivor I will make it! I will pretend its my idea!
