Comedian and Chicago native Bernie Mac died early Saturday morning from complications due to pneumonia, his publicist confirmed.

Mac, 50, had been hospitalized for about a week at Northwestern Hospital, according to his spokeswoman. A few years ago, Mac disclosed that he suffered from sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in tissue, most often in the lungs.

I saw this on the front on Yahoo. I was really shocked. I didn't hear anything like diseases or illnesses he had, then he died.

He was a main face on the Def Jam Comedy scene and an inspiration to most black comedians, kickstarting careers such as Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence and Chris Tucker.
He is a legend.

That's pretty shocking. Sad stuff, I wasn't his biggest fan but still. Always sad to see someone pass, and he always seemed like a pretty cool guy.

Man, this is too sad. Hell, Morgan Freeman just barely made it out with his life, and im glad he's ok. ( If you haven't heard he was in a car accident, and was hospitalized.) Bernie will definetly be missed.
