ahahahhahaaahhahaa YEAH! I read the book first, befor seeing the movie and I got more scared while reading than while watching this stupid movie...
but the hum Worst Special Effects award would probably go to the Power Rangers for their overall performance but hum... Heroes is kinda bad too... I mean you can figure by seeing an episode that they don't have enough money to do all the special effects they'd like.

Those all may be bad but the worst special effects from a professional movie definately go to "Plan 9 From Outer Space".
This movie is widely regarded as the worst movie of all time. The flying saucers are clearly made from the tops of metal garbage cans and the strings are easily visible. The setting randomly changes from night to day mid-scene and the movie itself has almost no plot. Everything about "Plan 9" is the so amazingly terrible, and if you've seen the movie you know I'm not even exaggerating.

The Langoliers, a TV movie I saw by Steven King. The special effects when the Langoliers were attacking the plane at the end were like cartoons.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_LangoliersAlso the fire explosion in the end of Children of the Corn was a cartoon fire explosion.
Steven Kings movies were good, but the special effects weren't.

Every Disney Channel show. There was an episode of "That's So Raven" where Raven's suit blows up and she's floating in the air, then it pops or something and she goes flying all over the room.
The whole time I was thinking, "Dear God, don't they have enough money to make better special effects!"
Open Water was terrible too. Hello? If you're going to make a shark movie, at least use a fake shark that looks real and show it biting them.
No, instead, they showed a shark swimming, then showed the two people bobbing up and down in the water going "AHH I JUST GOT BIT BY A SHARK!"
Lame.

And Roxy (Hannah's body guard) chops I pineapple in half.
You can see the string attached to the pineapple pulling it apart.
I thought it was funny.
