According to the news, Andre Agassi candidly describes being introduced to the drug in 1997 and the moment when he was informed he had failed a drugs test. In his book, Agassi, now 39, spoke of the moment he took crystal meths, a highly-addictive amphetamine, for the first time when his career was in freefall.International Tennis Federation (ITF) president Francesco Ricci Bitti said he was “surprised and disappointed” by the revelations and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) chief John Fahey called on the ATP to “shed light” on the circumstances that allowed Agassi to escape punishment.
A couple of things here: the new drug of choice for his book launch has to be Crystal Meth, snorting coke just want to sell enough books. The real sporting side of this story will quickly be lost like a wristband. The ATA accepting and 'hiding' this case again shows that the sporting authorities should have nothing to do with the anti-doping side of sport. But I think we can all agree that Andre now believes in Unicorns.
Actually, I am a fan of him, and I had collected some beautiful rubber wristbands with all colors and his name. As far as I'm concerned, it had nothing to do with performance. If anything, it would've had a detrimental effect. I genuinely don't see what the fuss is about here. Twelve years ago this has occurred. So many news agencies have it as one of their headlines, and that baffles me. I don't see the news or the relevance. You'd think the guy was a dealer the way some are talking. And let’s get off the high horse about tennis testing being a joke. We have talked a decade ago that testing in every sport was a farce. He will always be my favorite tennis player. No one will ever take his place. I will buy his book and go on collecting the silicone bracelets.
Being honest with himself and family and his fans is the best answer. Congrats, good luck and thanks for all the memories!
