What do you think people will be studying in history, in the future?

Personally I think that they will be studying the rise of the internet, and internet celebrity's such as Ian and Anthony.

What do you think?
irish smurfy
Consurism and our current obsession in material issues and famed human beings known as celebrities. Well that's would be more the Social side of History.

Things like the War on Terror, I'd say and the fight against Global Warming and the Greenhouse effect
anima
I think they'll be studying the discrepancies between the opinion of the populus mundi (to all those not doing latin: to the normal, every day life people) and the affairs of state. And the general incomprehension, lies, manipulation by capitalism and head honchos, and doomsday weapons.
HairyIrishman
How Ireland has the most useless government ever (not just current but in general)
Leo_Woof
I think they won't be studying anything because we would have destroyed our planet, and so would all be dead.
Bit Apocalyptic, deal.

Alright, but let's say we are alive. I guess we'd study Bush (+ Blair), the fight for gay equality, the dead religion Christianity and the War on Terror. (Which we've already lost, by the way. We're terrified for our lives everyday, there's no fighting this and winning. But I imagine teachers would twist the truth, making us victorious. I suppose I should put in a right parenthesis.)

But that's just my opinion. I'm feeling a little Doomsday right now as well, so bias is a possibility.

Are you being serious?
I really doubt it, no offence to any internet celebrity but everyone only lasts so long. There are many internet celebrities but why would we study them? It wouldn't make us more knowledgeable. Most people that go down in history and that you study in school are those who have made an impact on society.

It's a bit more complex than that. Last year, during a depression, I did read most of the quatrains (being French, it's just about piss). Very cryptic, but...
Basically, the last 600-ish quatrains narrate the last 100 years up to 2030, with an enigmatic conclusion: if humanity sees the dawn of 2030, then there is no God. If we get destroyed, God was real.
That's what I got from it. It's very cryptic though, as I said, so don't take my opinion too much into account and read the last 100 quatrains if you feel like it. That's really where the bits are prophecized.

In 2030, I'll be 46. WOAH.
I'd love to be alive to see the end of the world.
Come on, God, exist! (I never thought I'd say that)

Oh gosh.
My maths = as good as failed. Srsly.
FAILED.

I'll be 40. Well, actually 39 on the dawn of 2030, and I guess that's all that matters.

Hey...I never said Nostradamus is right. It's like trusting the Bible laugh.gif but if he IS right, we can't do anything about it. The rise of the antechrist (quatrain 400 if I remember correctly) is over, and the four cavaliers (using the french word pwns Boxiom) are passing. If Nostradamus, our french little poet, is right, then...We're pretty much screwed wink.gif

haha, first page, and you guys are "déjà hors-sujet"

i believe we'll be talking about american politics.
bush will have somehow changed the course of history with his stupidness.
and arogance (did i spell that correctly? sry, études française!)

I'm really sure that's what future historians will care about. "Oh, snap. I just can't seem to get my numbers straight on that damn Iraq war." Have you read any statistics for any war? Civil, Revolutionary, 1812? Everyone is fine with an estimate. Get over it; this isn't Politics & Religion, it's general. Geez.

Probably. I think the world wars will be the major issue still. It's likely that the rise of the internet will be treated with the same excitement that we treat movable type.

Nobody in the future will care about our celebrities. I think the invention of the transistor will become much more appreciated, though.

About present day,
President Bush and his reasonings, Internet revolution, and hot dogs.

I've been thinking about that.

My Social Studies teacher implied that he believes that the rise of self-media (aka; the internet) has formed what may someday be recognized as a new time period.

And I don't see why internet celebrities such as the Numa Numa guy, the founders of popular websites, and even Anthony and Ian, wouldn't be studied. They are examples of how the 'YouTube Generation' (as they just called it in the news) allows you to broadcast yourself to anyone without much more than a computer and some skills.

i disagree with the first one since what the US is doing right now has create more terrorism than there previously was...

also, in the future it may be too late to fight against global warming...

I'm thinking of becoming a history teacher, and if I see anything about that inside a text book I have to teach, I will personally rip out the page.

i think in the future we will find out somthing crazy like Bush was actually following orders from god and what he set in motion with the iraq war will eventually leas to peace and the end of disease and famine. That or we will be learning about the blind leading the blind. (the last bit you'll only understand if you have at least a high school education)

"future history" You do realize how little sense that makes right?
Cirrow
It makes sense if you take the word history and take it out of context. Use the term as a class being taught and it makes perfect sense. Even if it doesn't make sense, and it slightly doesn't, it's still a play on a words, and you acknowledging it makes it sound like he did it on accident.

Come on guys. Be nice. sad.gif

It depends on how far in the future you're talking, but two big topics will be 9/11 & the war on terror and the invention of the internet probably.

I wasn't trying to be mean, I was just stating that it didn't make sense. That they cancel each other out.
:ASH:
It makes perfect sense to say "future history", it's just what the history will be in the future and what kids will be studying in history classes in the future.
