I think the random thread would be a good place to throw out this little...uh...hugely embarrassing story of what happened to me today.
So in America, within local politics, the highest political power you can reach is county supervisor. This is a board of 5 individuals, that decide practically everything for the county. Mayors hope to attain this position someday.
So I had to testify to the board of supervisors for my county on an issue. It was my first time testifying, so I was a bit nervous.
The chair of the board, is someone I used to work for. I was a big part of getting her elected to that position. So she doesn't know how highly I've risen in local politics over the past several months, so she did not ever anticipate seeing me testifying before them on this particular issue.
She has not seen me in the crowd yet, as there are about 50-75 people in attendance. She reads on her card:
"And it looks like we have one registered testimony in support of this issue, John Terry (looks confused, looks up, sees me, and smiles) you have 3 minutes"
So I get to the stand, the cameras are fixated directly on me (keep in mind, the video of this is playing live to every TV in the county) and then she speaks again:
"Might I say, that I do not agree at all with this individual speaking, I think it is a disgrace to this board, and I motion for him to leave"
Another person on the board, whom I have worked closely with in the past year or so, says:
"I 2nd that, please leave Mr. Terry"
So I am totally confused, and I look up and say "wha....."
And then the board erupts with laughter, and then the crowd erupts with laughter, and I am totally embarrassed. I think her chief of staff, whom I am very good friends with, set them up to this.
I got 5 phone calls right afterwards, of people I work with/know laughing at me.
