Does anyone like hip hop music. Not necessarily modern stuff cause I'm not wild about some of it, but anything that could ever be considered hip hop.

umm. Maybe gangter rap is like that but that's just one aspect of the culture of music. I pretty much hate that stuff too.

Anyway, back to Hip hop.
I kind of expected these kinds of results to the question. I was kindo of hoping for at least one other person who could say that's their favorite genre though.

i like rap, but that's probably gotta do with where i come from. cruisin around with the windows down and some lil wayne playin is ballin.

Current day stuff is complete shit. No talent at all. I like my olschool stuff though. Public Enemy, Method Man, Wu-Tang Clan, Run DMC, NWA, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, etc., and then there is cool underground shit out there that is really good. I also admit to liking some of the original gangsters like Tupac and Biggie. But the mainstream stuff you hear on MTV/VH1/BET/the radio is... ugh... I can't even describe how fucking horrible that is. Puts out a bad image for the term "Hip-Hop". People shouldn't be so closed minded about this. It ISN'T all "ridin on mah 28 rimz in da club uh uh uh" bullshit.

That sounded a bit racist to me. Appreciate something when it has talent. Most of today's so called "rap" is total untalented bullshit about "being in a club" or "ridin spinnaz", or whatever such nonsense. But the real shit, the old-school hip-hop, now that took talent. And rap comes in more forms than just a rapper/rap group. It is incorporated with other genres sometimes and makes for a totally awesome sound.

New mainstream rap and hip-hop are mainly a bunch of talentless assholes. The rap that you hear most of the time now a days is the catchy shit that is easily marketable, but that's what it is, shit. The meaningful rap that you don't hear is past the ideas of "gankin'" folks, getting laid, and gangs. Modern hip-hop is what I see as emo music, or is starting to tie in with/within it. Fuck 97% of today's music in the asshole.

Come on people! You obviously havn't listened to the right artists! It doesn't HAVE to be "Oh yeah, a bitch, I got a gun and loads of rings!!" sometimes it's just as good as all your metal-thingie-crap! ;P

Those are probably the type of lyrics you hear, and think rap is crap. But it's real. African-americans are fed up with all the racist bullshit. (keep in mind that these lyrics were written in 1991). I'd be fucking pissed too. It's no different then Greenday and what they do. Rap is african-american culture.

There are a few pretty good hip hop artists out there with a lot of talent. Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, P.O.S, pretty much anybody from Rhymesayers Entertainment. Check 'em out.

I'm bringing this topic back to life.
Hip Hop, R&B and Rap are my favorite genres. Rock is 2nd, and so forth. Rap isn't all about pimps and money and hoes, it can also be deep too. It's funny how people just hear the word "Rap" and suddenly think of sex and money. Like someone else said, Rappers base their lyrics on their past life experiences. I'll say this, some rap songs can be pretty crappy. But for the most part, I like it.



I'm sorry, but the last time I check Rap and Hip Hop didn't suck as much as you do.
