- What equipment and software does Smosh use to make the videos?
Anthony posted a topic about this in the Smosh Videos Discussion: http://smosh.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3109QUOTE(Anthony)What equipment does Smosh use?
Camera: Panasonic AG-DVX100B
External Mic: Audio-Technica AT897 Shotgun Microphone
Computer: MacBook Pro

We also have some really cheap lights for when lighting is needed and we have a green screen.

Although not always 100% accurate and sometimes vandalized, additional information on the history of Smosh can be found in the Smosh Wikipedia Article.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Where can I post about the Smosh Videos on these forums?
You can discuss the smosh videos in the Smosh Videos Discussion forum subcategory.
If you want to discuss a specific video, look for it on the Videos page, then click on the "Post comment" link in the green area above the "Share" box.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - How do I edit a post?
If you look in lower right corner of a post, you will see a little button that says "Edit." Simply click it to edit your post. You can do a "quick edit" which will let you edit the post quickly right there on the spot, or a "full edit" which takes you back to the posting page and allows you more editing options. Note that you can only edit your own posts unless you are a moderator. Please use the edit feature... try very hard to refrain from double posting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - How do I make a poll?
Click "New Topic" at the top right of the forums. Then click "Click here to manage this topic's poll". From there you can add the poll question and poll answers.
And voila.. you've got a poll. You can also add your own comments in the text box below, or in the case of the example poll-- a picture of your ass in some hot new pants.
Please note when creating a poll, the poll question should be a question in which a poll would actually work; asking "Who is the best musician of all time" and then only giving people 5 to choose from, you're not really setting up an accurate poll. Asking a question such as "Are you male or female?" would be suitable for a poll, as it only has two possible answers and will produce accurate results. Although, don't make it something that simple.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - When is a post considered spam?
This is somewhat of a judgement call... so use your judgement. Are you having a 2-way conversation with a friend for over a page in a topic? That is considered spam. Do you like to interject brief little comments like, "LoL! You're so funny!" or "OMG I forgot to check my prostate for prostate cancer"? Well, we don't like that because it's spam. Basically just stay on topic. Do everything in your effort to make meaningful posts. Many a time has a topic needed to be closed because of rampant spamming. Not to mention many people have been banned because of spamming.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Can I start my own topics?
Yes! Any member can start a new topic. Just click the New Topic button. Please don't make stupid topics... it gives the mods too much work. They don't like work because they're lazy. Try to keep them happy by not making topics about your new job at McDonald's that gives you enough money to buy that new JoJo album you're droolin' over. But.. you could make a topic about getting jobs, what people think of summer work, or whether JoJo's new album will be up for a Grammy next year. These are all decent discussion topics. In short, leave the topic open to discussion. Don't make a topic just to exclaim something dumb only to leave people thinking, "why the hell do I care?". Making a topic title grammatically correct is reccomended. It makes the topic less intelligent or worthwhile when all of the letters are lowercase or spelt wrong. Don't create topics trying to be funny. Like a topic named "Sex Stories" and inside you call everyone who just clicked on it pervs for looking at the topic. Also, don't give topics names that have nothing to do with what the topic is actually about, for example, if you make a topic about Heelys, an appropriate name would be "Heelys, who has them"; an inappropriate title would be "Lickin' Batteries". It's common sense people. Other topics you shouldn't post:- Repeat topics. Before creating a topic, use the search function located at the top of the forums page, to make sure the topic has not already been created. For example, you wouldn't want to post a "pictures" topic, because there already is one.
- Self-centered topics. We don't need a topic saying that today is your birthday, your dog just had puppies, you just got a job at McDonalds, or you just bumped your elbow on your desk.
- Video topics. A very large population of smosh visitors make videos, and would like to have them viewed and commented on. This rule is similar to the rule of advertising your own website/forums. If you feel the need to share your work with fellow users, we have a topic PINNED in the Smosh Video Discussion forum for users to post their own video creatons. Posting it here will hit your target audience: people who actually want to watch your movie.
- How do I post an image?
- Option 1: Upload it on smosh
While making a new topic, you may want to post an image. If you look down near the bottom, you'll see "File Attachments." Click on "Browse..." and find your image. You can do this for any file, it doesn't necessarily have to be an image. There are some rules however.- All files must be less than 204800 bytes (204kb) in size
- NO pornographic images or other equally disturbing images or documents (You most likely WILL be banned for this.)
- NO files containing viruses or harmful elements (duh)
- Try to crop the picture to make it fit in the normal size of the post. It sucks when you have to use the horizontal scroll to see shit
- Don't post pointless pictures just for the hell of it
- Option 2: Host it yourself
The easiest and fastest way is to just use the above method. Thing is, the image shows up below all your text. This blocks you from adding text underneath the image; and you can only post one image at a time. This is why we suggest you use Image Hosting Websites. Some image hosting sites that are available to you are:- http://www.putfile.com/ (free subscription required).
- http://www.imageshack.us/ (Free! No sign-up required)
- http://tinypic.com/ (Free! No sign-up required)
With Imageshack, you can resize images to make them look better and not take up too much of the screen. It also provides the BB Code for you, to post the image itself, or a thumbnail linking to the image (if it's an image that needs to be big for some reason). - http://photobucket.com/ (free subscription required)
Once you have your image hosted, simply use the [IMG] tags to insert it in your post (If you want help on using the BB codes, click HERE for help).
- Option 1: Upload it on smosh
- Where do I post [INSERT topic NAME HERE]?
It's surprising, but we actually do have problems with this. Please make sure you're making a topic in the most applicable forum possible. If you wanna talk about Flash, go to the Flash Forum. We really shouldn't have to move people's topics... but it happens. So think before you make a new topic... "Does this really belong in this forum?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Can I advertise my new site/forums here?
Yes and No. You are free to do this, but not by starting a new topic for it. There is a link posting topic we have pinned in the General Discussion forums, so anyone who actually wants to see something else (like your website) can go there and see it. You can also advertise your website in your signature, profile, etc.
As for forums... think about it. We are Smosh Forumers... this is where we like to post. You probably won't get us to post on your less developed memberless forums (why else would you be advertising here to get more members?)... so give it up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Is it okay if I type in shorthand? Such as using abbreviations or leaving out vowels?
NO. We prefer you type out words in full, as it is hard to understand what someone is trying to say when they abbriviate words, or take the vowels out of them. It also makes it very difficult to read. We understand that you might be used to typing that way and you think you type faster that way, but honestly, it doesn't. It just makes people question your intelligence and strain to understand what you're trying to say.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - How do I change my avatar?
This is another feature in the My Controls area of the forum. Simply click "Edit Avatar Settings.":- Upload it from your computer (use Browse...).
- Disable your avatar and use nothing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - What else can I do in the My Controls area?
- View your account status
- Edit your signature
- Go to your Inbox
- Send PMs
- Subscribe to topics (to get notified when someone posts in it)
- Change various email, board, language, and account settings
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Is it okay to post in a different language?
No. This is an English speaking website, and no, you can't make a topic where people specifically talk in your primary language.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - What are quotes and how do I use them?
Quoting a user is a way to respond to a specific post made by a member to avoid confusion of who's post you are referring to.
To use quotes:
-Click the Reply button on the bottom right of a post to quote that person.
-Click the +Quote button on the bottom right of any posts you want to quote. Add as many as you want, then click the Add Reply button on the bottom of the page to have all the quotes ready to be quoted on the Reply page.
Fast Reply Quotes:
-Highlight any text you want to be quoted, then click the [Quote selected text] button below the Fast Reply text area.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Why won't my avatar upload? I keep getting an error.
Your avatar may not be uploading properly for one or both of these reasons:- The avatar may not have uploaded because the file type of your image may not be permitted on the board. The file types that will upload are: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, and .png.
- The avatar file size may be too large. The maximum file size the the board allows is 50 KB.
Keep in mind that your image will be automatically resized to fit. The largest it will reach is 50x50 pixels.
- How do I change the text in the gray box below my avatar?
You must make 50 legitimate, non-spam posts, then go to Profile Options in My Controls.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - What if this FAQ didn't answer my question?
If this FAQ doesn't answer one of your questions, there are three alternate resources for you. For basic questions pertaining to use of the forum features, there is a Help section located at the top of the forums page between "Forums" and "Search".
Forums Help
If you have a more specific or detailed question, see the "Any Questions" topic located in the "New Users Look Here" forum. You can post your question and a fellow smosher can help answer your question.
