7 Actors Who Were *Almost* Cast As The Amazing Spider-Man
It's kind of hard to imagine anyone but Andrew Garfield as The Amazing Spider-Man, but that was almost the case! I guess I thought the same thing about Tobey Maguire and that proved to be false... BUT STILL! Try imagining any of these actors in the role...just not cutting it for me. But my condolences to them all for losing the role of a lifetime. And possibly having Emma Sotne as a girlfriend too...tough break. Here's 7 actors who were almost cast as The Amazing Spider-Man!
Before he was Peeta, Hutcherson was almost Peter Parker! And we even get to see his audition tape! Cool! Hutcherson didn't get the role, but luckily for him, he got a major part in another blockbuster franchise, The Hunger Games movies. And getting to kiss Jennifer Lawrence is a pretty great consolation prize too. Just saying!
Not only did Alden lose the role of Spidey, he also lost out on Harry Osborne as well. DAYUM! He did manage to land a major role in Beautiful Creatures and a few indie movies, but is still looking for that break-out role. I'd feel bad for him if he wasn't so damn cute. It's hard to feel bad for super hotties...I know, so unfair!
Tom Riddle as Spider-man?!? I don't know if that's something I could ever wrap my head around. Apparently he wasn't that enthusiastic about the role, after being accepted to London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Yeah, right wh would turn down Spider-man to go to acting school, no matter how prestigious it is. Besides, practically every prestigious Bristish actor in the world is in a superhero movie. I think it's illegal not to have one in the cast or something. And I think that's a great law, if it's true.
After carrying the big budget Percy Walker movie, for awhile, Logan was considered to have a virtual lock on the role of Spider-man in the reboot. It must suck to not get a role after you're considered to be the frontrunner. But even better than playing Spider-Man has to be acting oppsite Emma Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Swoon. Don't tell anyone, but I like that movie better than any of the Spider-Man flicks.
The Kick-Ass star was once a frontrunner to play Peter Parker as well. But apparently, Johnsons was apprenhensive about going the superhero route again. “I would play another superhero, but not necessarily soon…Obviously [Hollywood producers] haven’t got that much of a creative brain when someone else has a movie coming out called Kick-Ass, why would they want to be the next superhero that’s already been done before…It’s just ridiculous. Producers just aren’t thinking. It’s why [crap] movies get made.” IDK, being typecast as a superhero seems pretty rad to me!
Another actor who went from losing one blockbuster role to gaining another one. After Yelchin lost out on Spidey, he landed the role of Chekov in the Star Trek reboot. Is every movie a sequel or a reboot these days? Way to think the public can't handle things we aren't already familiar with, Hollywood! Actually, you're probably right. There's a reason so many of us don't want to live on this planet anymore.
His ballet training would have definitely have come in handy as Spidey! Of all the guys on this list, I can most see Bell in the role. Now I wanna watch Billy Elliot again! Seriously, one of my favorite movies ever. Oh, and I just remembered he married Evan Rachel Wood. Good girl, serious upgrade form Marilyn Manson, like a million times better actually. But I guess anyone would be. SNAP!
Which one do you think would have been good? Let me know @desijedeikin or in the comments below!
