7 Children's Books Every Adult Should Own

Every now and then, you walk through a bookstore and you see an adult in the children's section browsing books, and you think aww... there's a creepy pedophile in this Barnes and Noble and you immediately call the cops and then you go get brunch. Now that's a Saturday! Children's books have so much volume in their simplicity and so much wisdom to impart on tiny minds. Children's literature is filled with beautiful how-to's on the procedures of life, and it's easy for us to forget these tales as we get older. Here are 7 children's books every adult should own. So, maybe, just maybe that poor man was just looking to expand his literary collection. But probably not. You did the right thing.

I'M CRYING ALL OVER THE BIB I'M WEARING. What? I thought it was best to get into character. The Little Prince is a children's book that is really made for the inner child in every adult. A copy of this will help ward off any predatory oldness. This piece of perfection is a reminder on the wonderment that accompanies youth and implores its readers to forever see the world through unscathed eyes. Hang it on your wall, sleep with it, wear it as a hat, whatever you do, definitely invite The Little Prince into your home. He'll keep you young at heart.

6. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

That tree did so much for that ungrateful Jonathan!! I assume his name is Jonathan, because most Jonathans are ungrateful turds. YES I KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING JONATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS. Some see this book as a startling look at the sadomasochistic behavior we can have towards people we love. We give and give only to receive nothing in return. Others see it as a positive look on human relationships and the idea of selfless love. However you see it, it is an important tool to keep around your house. It's serves as a reminder of true human nature both negative and positive. Once you've had enough of that, it serves as a nice coffee table book. Once you've had enough of that, it serves as a great coaster git for a huge mug. Once you've had enough of that, it provides a sturdy surface for balancing on the top of your head like a real pageant queen and so on and so forth. I'm telling you, The Giving Tree never stops giving.

5. Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Face your fears, because scary monsters aren't so scary. Meet them head on, play with them, go home and there will be a nice super waiting for you. Now, if that's not an adult lesson, I don't know what is.

4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

The most whimsical tale there ever was. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory still holds up as an incredible story. The world is painted in such a thorough and imaginative way, it is able to churn the otherwise stagnant adult imagination. It really does allow you to go places your brain has grown out of going. And there should be no such thing! Adults should have some fun too, right Santa??

3. Peter Pan by J.M Barrie

Because it's brilliant. Because it's pure delight. Because it's fantasy. But mainly because deep down we are all the boy who never grew up.

Hey, whatdyaknow, life is hard. It is scary and hard and can feel overwhelming at times, especially when you inevitably hit a crossroads in life and have to decide where to go. Oh The Places You'll Go will make all of this seem like an adventure and reassures us that we are our best selves. Sometimes it takes a cat in the hat to remind us there are things to look forward to and that life is full of challenges, but that we will endure, survive and prosper. People will tell you that, but it just doesn't sound as good without the rhymes.
