Nintendo 3DS May Diagnose Eye Problems In Kids

Nintendo's 3DS is coming to a store near you on March 27th...

It promises hardcore 3D action without the glasses...

Instead of producing two images, offset from each other like the old days... the new 3D effect is created by a liquid crystal display also drawing two images... but the this time the images are separated by a barrier that separates the images so that each eye sees a different one creating a 3D effect.

The game system comes with a warning that children under 6 should not use this kind of 3D technology because they don't know the effects it could have on young developing vision...

But the American Academy of Opthalmology seems to suggest that the game makers are being overly cautious with their warning. You see, there is no evidence that this 3D technology causes any harm to kids with healthy eyes...

But kids with conditions such as imbalances in vision and misaligned eyes, would have a hard time seeing the 3D images... they'd probably get headaches or eye fatigue while playing the 3DS THUSLY diagnosing these conditions early and making it possible for these kids to get the treatment they so desperately need.

American Academy of Opthalmology suggests: “If a healthy child consistently develops headaches or tired eyes or cannot clearly see the images when using 3D digital products, this may indicate a vision or eye disorder. If such problems occur, the Academy recommends that the child be given a comprehensive exam by an ophthalmologist.”

Once again we are telling you that video games are good for your health. We're not saying to play them all day or anything, but it seems that an hour or so of video games a day isn't going to hurt anyone and could actually help some people.

but you have the option not to play in 3d. you can play in 2d..... i play in 2d all the time so my battery lasts longer and i dont like the 3d effect, if i play 3d too long (this doesn't happen to everyone, i have sensitive eyes) my eyes get sore and i stop playing, but it's whatever you're comfortable with; my bff plays 3d for hours on end and we both have 20/20 vision. it's all a matter of preference; don't hate, just turn off the 3d!

I think it would be annoying to have a 3D Nintendo DS. I have a DS lite, and It's perfectly fine. People spend to much money for stuff.
