Philip Seymour Hoffman Cast In The Next Hunger Games Film!
It's so exciting when two awesome things get mashed up together - strawberries and bananas, the Jetsons and the Flintstones, music and anarchy, or even Batman and Legos. And today we learned of another one of these mash-ups - Philip Seymour Hoffman and The Hunger Games. In terms of rad combinations, this is like Transformers plus dinosaurs. Yes, I am absolutely saying that Philip Seymour Hoffman is as rad as a dinosaur.
And not one of those stupid peaceful brontosaurus either.
Like a full on velociraptor. With laser-eyes.
In the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee, the new Head Gamemaker. Readers of the book will know that Heavensbee took over as Head Gamemaker after the previous holder of that title, Seneca Crane, is killed for letting Katniss and Peeta get away. You think Philip Seymour Hoffman is going to let Katniss and Peeta get away? Hell no. Philip Seymour Hoffman can be so vicious that I still hate him in Mission Impossible 3 even knowing what I do now about Tom Cruise.
Do you know how good an actor you have to remain
the most hatable part of a Tom Cruise movie today?
If you're still not getting how awesome Philip Seymour Hoffman is, consider the case of Synecdoche, New York, a film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman that is pure gibberish. Best I can tell, that movie was about Philip Seymour Hoffman walking on set and just doing whatever the Hell he felt like for six hours and then tasking the editors to come up with a movie. Some days he wouldn't even eat because he wanted to give his character a "hunger edge", whatever that means. The entire film was just nonsense. And you know what? It was awesome.
I cry at this scene every time and I literally have no idea what is even happening.
So yeah, I'm stoked about the next Hunger Games movie because one of the very best actors of all time is in it. But the Catching Fire casting decisions are just starting - remember, we still have yet to find out who will play the other major character, Finnick Odair. Unfortunately, it would seem the Hunger Games' producers have painted themselves into a corner - there's really only one way to top the amazing casting choice of Philip Seymour Hoffman when it comes time to pick a Finnick Odair.
Check and mate.
