10 Weirdest Restaurants and Bars From Around the World
Though my restaurant of choice is usually themed as my kitchen (I know they microwave their food but at least the dress code is pretty relaxed), there are some pretty phenomenally themed food holes and gin joints in the world. It’s a big world out there, here are some crazy places you should grub globally.
Modern Toilet, (Hong Kong/Taiwan/China/Japan)
That’s right, at Modern Toilet you sit on a throne of your own, which I’m going to go ahead and assume is non-functioning. But you don’t just sit on toilets, you eat, drink and get novelty plushies out of toilets. Here’s hoping that the actual bathrooms don’t look like the kitchen if you know what I mean…I mean that people could sh$*& in the kitchen by mistake.. and then serve it…because comedy?
Buns And Guns, (Beirut, Lebanon)
Nothing makes my mouth water more than the possibility of being shot in the face!
Alcatraz ER, (Tokyo, Japan)
Have you ever dreamed of drinking booze out of a human head while pretending to be in a J-horror movie about a twisted zombie hospital in a prison? Sure, we all have! At Alcatraz ER your taste buds and boners will be confused and delighted as beautiful and bloodied waitresses serve you food shaped like intestines and other severed limbs. But don’t worry tourists, it wont cost you an arm and a leg! I’m sorry, I’ve just been fired…please enjoy the rest of the list as written by my replacement clone.
Disaster Café, (Lloret de Mar, Spain)
Disaster café, where your meal looks better on the floor! Also how gassy would you be after being shook up like that? My guess? Very.
Clinic Bar, (Clark Quay, Singapore)
Sadly this bar closed in 2011, thanks Obamacare!
Dinner in the Sky, Anywhere That Has the Sky
Dinner in the Sky has to be the most detailed and exquisitely crafted theme restaurant I’ve ever seen. It really looks like you eat more than several feet off the ground while you and the other guests are secured in your seats like you’re on a culinary theme park ride. What’s that? That is in fact exactly what is happening in these photos? Oh, I see. Well, my suggestion is to tip your waiter if you ever want to see land or a bathroom ever again. NOW those toilet seats would come in handy!
Museum H.R. Giger Bar (Gruyères, Switzerland)
Come for the exquisitely macabre and functional recreations of artist H.R. Gigers work. Stay for the food… :
Harbin Robot Bar,
When we’re all shuttled to the glue factory by our robot overlord wel will talk amongst ourselves about how the Robopocalypse started. And that place is here. Adorably, efficiently, here.
Dernier Bar Avant La Fin Du Monde, or “Last Bar Before the End of the World, (Paris, France)
The geekiest bars to end all bars: Star Wars, Doctor Who, Blade Runner, Tron, Metropolis, zombie films and so much more are all represented. Bonus is that if you meet someone there you already know they’re cool enough to make the wookie with two baawooorrrrrrrgks.
The Way Station (Brooklyn, NY) and The Tardis Room (Portland, Oregon)
Two bars on our Earth devoted to all twelve (and counting) Doctors! And oh, those clever boys (and women) who dreamed them up because you can get various sonic screwdrivers while you take pictures with their TARDIS’s (TARDI?) for posterity. Sorry, so so sorry to say that at least as far as the Portland bar is concerned, the inside is definitely not bigger. Sorry, Spoilers!
Where would you go if you had the chance? Let me know in the comments!
Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter, it’s not themed but it is magic marker scented.
